Gessoes and grounds prepare surfaces for painting and other media applications. Priming a surface with gesso or ground is highly recommended for all surfaces. Foremost it provides a ground surface for paint (and other media) to adhere to, reflect or absorb light and to protect the substrate. This is extremely important for painting with oils. These products also seal and prevent art materials from being absorbed directly into the surface, therefore reducing the amount of paint (or media) from being consumed. All of our gessoes and grounds have excellent coverage, adhesion, strength and flexibility. All levels will not flake, crack or chip from their substrate.
Black Gesso:
- Creates Smooth, matte and opaque painting surfaces
- Water permanent when dry
- Very strong adhesion and flexibility to ensure no cracking, rubbing, flaking or lifting from the substrate
- Tints highly pigmented
- 2-3 water diluted coats recommended
